Learning Disabilities Assessment Models

As a student of psychological counseling and guidance, I need to learn much about Learning Difficulties. In this semester I have had a course which is named as Learning Difficulties. This topic is quite important because learning disabilities has become the largest disability category under the population receiving special education services. With this course I have learned many knowledge of legal definitions of LD from national and international perspective, terminology, characteristics as well as classification, causes, and prevalence of LD. I prepared a mind map to get the big picture of the best models for the identification of learning disabilities on IQ-achievement discrepancy model and Response-to-Intervention Model.


This course is mainly ground on the purposes of;

1. Explaining terminology, history, incidence, classification, etiologies, characteristics, and diagnostic models of LD.

2. Explaining educational, social-emotional, and academic needs of students with LD.

3. Developing skills in assessment of academic skills of students with learning disabilities.

4. Evaluating tests, techniques, and methods in the referral-to-placement process of students with LD in the field of school counseling.

5. Producing practical solutions for the needs of students with LD in their daily life.
